Accommodation

Live as part of an English-speaking household (homestay) while studying with us at Spinnaker School of English. Depending on the type of accommodation you book, you’ll have your own bedroom, or share a room with another student. It's a great chance to meet Portsmouth residents and share their way of life. Living with English-speakers also means that you will never stop learning and improving your fluency.

  • Most of our homestays are within 15 to 30 minutes' walk from the School or within a short bus journey.

Portsmouth is a small city that is well connected by public transport routes. Portsmouth bus routes are covered by two bus operators: Stagecoach and First Bus. Also, there are several taxi companies: Aqua Cars City Wide TaxisAndy Cars and Uber.

  • We do our best to find a homestay to suit your requirements.

Sometimes, it is not possible to find a homestay that is an exact match to what you requested. The accommodation team will always liaise with you to discuss other options before choosing a homestay.

  • Depending on availability, the room you will be staying in could be one of the following:

    • Single room: small bedroom for single occupancy

    • Double room: large room for single occupancy

    • Twin room: shared by 2 students (we will discuss this option with you before choosing the family)

    • En-suite: a bedroom that is connected to a bathroom (very limited availability)

  • Pets:

In the UK almost half of all families own a pet or animal of some sort (dog, cat, rabbit, rodents, fish, reptiles, birds, etc.) with almost one in every four families owning a dog. Please let us know if you prefer not to stay in a house that has a pet or if you suffer from an allergic reaction to a specific animal.

Want to rent your own private flat or house?

You can always find and rent your own flat or house in Portsmouth. Please keep in mind the following points:

  • You need to be 18+ to be able to sign a rental contract.

  • Most landlords and agents require you to commit to a 6 months' contract.

  • You will be required to pay one month's rent and same amount as deposit in advance.

  • Once you sign the contract, you need to contact Portsmouth City Council to arrange Council Tax Payment for the property you are renting (unless the contract states that the rental fee includes Council Tax Payment)

  • Make sure to ask landlord or agent for information about Electricity, Gas and Water companies supplying the property you are renting to arrange payments to those companies (unless the contract states that the rental fee includes Utility Bills Payment)
